Water reserves in the reservoirs are at approximately 27%, a remarkably low figure less than a month before entering spring.
After 25 months without abundant rains in the headwaters of the rivers, the government has taken a series of measures to reduce water consumption per inhabitant, taking into account the risk of future shortages and acting with water restrictions.
Which regions are affected by the water restrictions?
The exceptional situation due to drought affects 15 regions and a total of 224 municipalities, including Vilanova, Vilafranca, Sitges and Ribes. Territories where Serra has its headquarters and manages communities of owners.
Therefore, there is a total of 6 million people which, to one degree or another, will be affected by the restrictions explained below.
What are the water restrictions due to drought in Catalonia?
Below we will explain the water restrictions that affect us as residents of the affected municipalities and owners of a community of neighbors.
- MAXIMUM VOLUME OF WATER per inhabitant per day: The total volume of water entering the municipal reservoir for supplying the population cannot exceed 230 litres per inhabitant per day, a figure much lower than the current average in Catalonia.
- SWIMMING POOLS – use of drinking water for filling is limited to:
– Partial filling of swimming pools with a water recirculation system, in the quantities essential to guarantee sanitary quality.
– In educational centres, the complete or partial filling of removable pools with a capacity of less than 500 litres for children to swim in is permitted.
– The restrictions do not apply to seawater pools that are filled and emptied without being connected to public supply and sanitation networks. - IRRIGATION – It is prohibited to water green areas and public and private gardens, except:
– Watering grass is prohibited in all cases, except on surfaces intended for federated sporting practice.
– Survival irrigation of trees or plants, and it should be done with the minimum amount of water necessary.
